My activities include mainly teaching and research with some administrative works:

Teach various courses on Economics and Commerce in undergraduate programmes.

Involved in research activities in Economics and Demography with special focus on measurement issues in economic inequality and human development, health and well-being related issues etc.

Use econometric techniques (multiple regression, logit regression, multiple classification analysis etc.) and fuzzy logics extensively in large-scale survey data analysis with programming in SPSS.

Render administrative services as Bursar (w.e.f. 01 December 2012) and as a convener and / or member of various statutory and sub-committees.

Research guidance


Supervised one Doctoral Research of the Department of Economics, University of North Bengal with one senior faculty member as Co-Supervisor from 15 January 2013 [Title of research: Burden of Diseases and Its Impact on Utilisation of Health Care & on Out-Of-Pocket Health Expenditure by Households in Siliguri Municipal Corporation Area (SMCA), West Bengal].  Date of submission: 03 November 2017. Date of award: 01 August 2018.

Guiding one independent Scholar intending for the degree of Ph. D. from 25 December 2016. The synopsis is now ready for registration. Broad area of research: Self-reported Morbidity and Health Seeking Behaviour of Women in the Reproductive Age (specific to an area).

One Scholar has started his work on measuring efficiency of the health service sector in Indian context on 26 August 2018. My role will be that of a Co-supervisor with one faculty member from the University of North Bengal as Supervisor.

Assisted one Postdoctoral Research of the Department of Demography, Population Research Centre, Faculty of Spatial Sciences, University of Groningen, The Netherlands from 15 January 2015 to 26 November 2015 (Topic of research: Multidimensional child growth in India from the perspective of Capability Approach).

The study is based on primary data collected through interview technique. It has three facets: morbidity analysis (examination of epidemiologic profile of the region); study of preference for a care (applying qualitative anthropological technique); and estimation of contribution of different need, predisposing, and enabling factors towards utilisation of a care (multivariate analyses using binary logistic regression models and multiple classification analysis).
